Diary Entry #1:

It's been a long time since the last time I wrote Diary, but now that there is nothing interesting to do in my life, I decide that I need to do something to kill time. My name is Zhang Bai Zhi, 16 years old girl living in Nanking. I do not live with both of my parents, since my father has left home to fight in the war and my mother went missing shortly after my father went. I hope one day, this diary would get to my father and he would be able to know how I spent my day without him because today, I went through much trouble trying to see him again.
Early in the morning, I went to buy some food for my sister, then from the radio I heard that there a war in Shanghai, a city close to Nanking. My father must be there, I thought. Without hesitation, I decided to go to shanghai to meet my dad. First I went home and assured my sister that I won't be here for next two days. Then I took my bicycle and started heading east.
It was a long ride, but I didn't feel tired at all. Shanghai was not much different from Nanking, except some modernized buildings and clothes. Mesmerized by my first visit to Shanghai, I almost forgot the reason I came here.
"Do you anything about the war in Shanghai?" I asked the old man on the other side of the street.
"Well I know many things about the war. What do you need?" The old man replied.
"I'm looking for my father. He's a soldier, but I don't know where it is. Do you know where the soldiers are?"
"I'm afraid I can't answer that question, for the war is going on anywhere in China."
"What!??!? War is not in Shanghai?" I asked.
"No, no, this war isn't Shanghai War. It's called Pacific War. Nations throughout the Earth is involved in this war." said the old man.
"Wait, is everyone against us?"
"No. If you're worrying about anything, it should be about Japan. Your father is probably fighting with the Japanese soldiers. It's true that they are making their way by first invading Shanghai, but they have invaded other cities as well. Your father could be everywhere now; it's impossible to find him. Now go back home now, this city would soon be conquered completely by Japanese. It's too dangerous for you to be here."
I was about to break in tears. Everything was in vain. I never knew that war would be this big. Would my father come back safely? I took my bicycle to start my way back home.
